Name
name and character…
Rather than being simply an identifier, name and character are synonymous. When the Bible speaks of taking God's name to all the nations, He is not talking about the name itself but the essential qualities of Heaven – His nature, His constitution; His value system; His culture; His health system; His economic and judicial system - on the whole, His Kingdom.
Likewise, the command, or order, charge, instruction and or mandate not to “take” God's name in vain actually means not to represent his “character” in a false, or improper, dishonorable, hypocritical, duplicitous, misleading and or self-serving manner. It is similar to the common expression of "having a good name" which is not about the name itself but the character of the one who possesses that name.
The Names of God used in the Bible act as a roadmap or guideline for learning about the character of God. The names He chooses in Scripture are meant to reveal or disclose; unveil; display; exhibit; show His Glory or True nature; Full weight to us.
