Triptych

The triptych is an artwork, such as painting or photography that is comprised of three panels, pieces or objects. The triptych can be used to create a sequence, communicate a narrative, convey an unfolding idea or express a continuing thought. It can also display distinct elements that bind a theme in an artwork or highlight different elements of the same subject matter. The triptych is also used to break a whole artwork into three or to merge three pieces into a unified whole. In essence, the triptych, as in the number 3 which divinely represent the union of harmony, wisdom and understanding, has the capacity to work as a coherent piece, or three separate artworks.
