Shade

A shade is where an artist adds black to a color in order to make it darker. This therefore means that a shade has a darker saturation than the original color, and the more-black that is mixed in, the darker it gets. For example, the color burgundy is a shade of red, and teal is a shade of green. In drawing, shading is used for depicting a range of darkness by applying media more densely or with a darker shade for darker areas, and with a lighter shade for lighter areas.
