The term installation art is used to describe large-scale, mixed-media constructions, often designed for a specific place in a gallery or museum and for an allotted period of time. The term installation can also be applied very generally to the disposition of objects in an exhibition, for example, the hanging of paintings, the arrangement of sculptures, etc.
