Emboss or Embossment
Embossment is an impression produced by pressure or printing. To emboss means to create a raised design or relief on a flat surface, usually of metal or paper, by pressing or hammering a design into the back side. An example of embossing is to engrave (to impress deeply as if with a graver) a pattern in a wooden table. It means to decorate or carefully create a mark(s) with a raised symbol. In essence, an embossed element has been raised in relief from a surface, as an ornament or a head on a coin.
