Bas-Relief or low relief is sculpture in which figures or forms extend only slightly from the background. It is sculptural relief in which the projection from the surrounding surface is slight and no part of the modeled form is undercut. In actuality, it is a type of art in which shapes are cut from the surrounding stone so that that they stand out slightly against a flat surface.
