Applied Arts

Applied Arts refer to arts that are concerned with designing, making and decorating objects with functional purposes and for diurnal uses, but for which aesthetic concerns are also important and significant.

The Applied Arts may include but certainly not limited to the fields of interior design, architecture, furniture, textiles and jewelry designing, clocks and watch making, graphic designing, ceramics, metal works and the design of manufactured items such as toys and musical instruments. Commercial art can also be considered a key branch of Applied Art.

Usually contrasted with the Fine Arts, (painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture etc.), Applied Arts are generally seen as serving no definite purpose other than creating a desired environment and providing an aesthetic experience.
