ARTWORK THEORY REPORT
The raised scroll is made of layers of parchment and secured on the waterproofed canvas ground with hand stitches and industrial adhesive. Each letter in the composition was painstakingly sculptured using carefully preserved wire - ensued by conscientiously stitching each miniscule on to the canvas; however, the font running across the plane towards the foot of the piece was molded with plaster.
The heavily textured relief is comprised of disparate organic materials mixed with plaster and concrete. The grade-two braille was carefully pasted onto the layers of foam board followed by applying thin layers of primer. Sackcloth, gravel, crushed rocks and rags were permanently bonded to the canvas using a combination of nails, stitches and glue. Before applying color, the heavily textured composition, weighing over 7 pounds (3 kilograms) was left to naturally cure for over 120 days ensued by heavy sanding and scouring through the texture to expose and precisely define the letters.
The painting is housed in a custom engineered frame and shielded from harmful in and outdoor UV light rays by a tailor cut museum glass, which, along with its nearly invisible finish and anti-reflective quality ensures a long archival life.
CONDITION OF ARTWORK
Original condition. The burnished aura of select alphabet letters in the composition is intentional, as well as the knife indentions marks along the open scroll, achieved upon curing the work. The artist's signature is rendered in gold leaf at the bottom left corner of the canvas.
