ARTWORK THEORY REPORT

The raised text was created by individually scribing each letter on carefully scoured foam board prior to priming the surface with a mixture of gypsum, river sand and latex paint. The textural design, which conforms to strict line-lengths and paragraph configuration is grounded on raised tablets comprised of foam board. Sackcloth, salvaged 16-inch brass zipper, cloth and wool mixed with gypsum and secured on the ground using contact cement makes up the folds and the balance of the textured relief. The horizontal bar streaming across the canvas was attached to the ground using water-resistant industrial adhesive followed by repeated hand stitches to ensure a permanent bond. The sculptured form under the bar is comprised of scored cardboard, distressed parchment and strips of lightweight paper. The custom stretcher upon which the canvas is resting was made of specially treated wood and has two support beams down the spine of the frame to avoid warping over time. The artist signature is rendered in gold at the bottom left corner of the canvas.

CONDITION OF ARTWORK

Original condition. Every scratch, mark, and sanded-like marks on the bottom register of the canvas were intentionally added by the artist upon curing the work. The artist signature is rendered in gold at the bottom left corner of the canvas.
