ARTWORK THEORY REPORT
Plywood, which has a high resistance to cracking, shrinkage, twisting and warping was used as the eventual ground for the heavily collaged piece. The musical instrument shapes were constructed with sheets of compressed board glued together and affixed to canvas. Industrial grade contact cement and bluing shoe nails were used to permanently bond the composition onto the plywood.
Shards of metal, carefully preserved, inventoried, cleansed for adhesion and mounted on compressed board, as well as wooden corks from wine bottles and salvaged wire (naturally rustic) make up the balance of the materials resting on the canvas and seamlessly ironed onto the plywood-board ground. The painting is housed in a custom frame and is shielded from potentially harmful UV light rays by a tailor-cut museum glass, which, along with its nearly invisible finish and anti-reflective quality, ensures long archival life.
CONDITION OF ARTWORK
Original condition. The surgeon-like marks and letters on the parchment (comprising the music sheet) merged into the composition (top left register of the piece) are intentional and were added two years after completing the work. Aside from the history of exhibitions listed below, the work has been part of several private exhibitions. The artist's signature is rendered in gold leaf at the bottom left corner of the painting.
